The bay swim has become one of the regatta and carnival's most popular and competitive
events during carnival week. With competitors ageing from 11 years old to the masters
of the sea and abilities ranging from swimmers that just want to finish to national
standard, it really is an event for everyone and anyone.
So if you just want a bit of fun, a workout, or those who want a serious race against other competitors, the
tide and waves then come and enter.
The bay swim is also an event for the spectators - superb views of the swimmers can be gained between the parade, Mowlem and stone
quay. So if you are aiming to become Britain’s 2012 Olympic champion or would just
like to watch a future gold medallist come and join the fun.
Prizes in the form
of cups and medals will be awarded after each event, entry forms available from
the stone quay at 6.00pm. Swimmers must be able to swim at least 100 metres or the
distance of the event they are aiming to enter.
Races-
- 100 metre fun swim- 11 years and under.
- 200 metres fun swim- 12 to 15 years old.
- 500 metres- 15 years and under.
- 500 metres- 16 years and over.
- 1000 metres- 16 years and over.
One race entry per person.

New for this year we hope you will enjoy this
popular event, open to all ages and ability where fun is the word. Kayaks will be
supplied for the heats and finals
except for the open competition.
As this is
the first year we are running this event it will be trial and error!
Kayaks will
be drawn before each event starts The course will be start from the beach and kayak around
bouys and first back to the beach.
Competitors will not be out of there depth. Safety
boats will be on hand as well as water marshals.
If you think you have the skill
and agility to compete in this event then come on down to the beach at ocean bay
restaurant.

Gig Racing Thursday from
6pm the main Beach

2008 Swanage Sea Rowing Club Pub Gig racing event .
Teams of six consisting of staff and customers from local pubs
and businesses have been learning to row Cornish gigs, which you may have seen on
the BBC’s Island parish programme. They have been training with Swanage Sea Rowing
club over the last few weeks and now believe they are ready to race against each other!
Heats of two boats will race in short sprints close to the beach so everyone
can watch.
Do come down and cheer them along.
For anyone wishing to learn to row
these historical clinker built boats, sessions are held weekly from the stone quay
near the pier on Tuesday evenings at 6pm and also Saturday mornings at 9.30am.

Fishing

There
is an abundance of fish in the local waters, so if you think you can tempt
a fish onto a hook this is for you.
There is a boat and shore angling competition
with a prize for the winners.
Sailing Regatta

Swanage Sailing Club is, once again, delighted to host the annual Sailing Regatta
during the final weekend of Swanage Carnival.
Races are open to members and visitors alike.
The races will be arranged to be viewable from the pier and the sea front.
