Thoughts on 2008
2008 was the centenary year of Road Racing in Swanage, Gary Trent, the
grandson of the 1908 winner, Mr Charlie Trent, started the race dead on time at
10am and 451 runners started off in very hot sunshine.
Unfortunately, the heat took
its toll and quite a few runners dropped out along the route, one runner collapsed
suffering with dehydration and was taken to hospital, thankfully he quickly recovered.
The weather aside, the turnout was good and 369 finished the run, the winners finishing
time, taking into account the heat, was a very respectable 1:15:52, congratulations
to Lee Piercy.
There will be a small change to the course this year, by doing so we will
cut out the contentious area of Corfe Castle village and the Afflington Bridge stretch of
road. A one way traffic order will be in place on this new stretch of the course.
A new course will be on this web site asson as we receive it.
