Thoughts on 2010
The 2010 Swanage Half Marathon is over, 625 registered (didn't all turn up to run!) and 510 finished, the most ever in the history of road racing in Swanage. Once again the Swanage weather proved to be a bit hot, but at least we didn’t have any casualties due to the heat, the sea must have been a most welcoming sight coming in toward the finishing line!

For the first time in over 50 years, a local man has become overall winner, Mathew Clark finished in a very good time of 1:16:33, well done Mathew. Purbeck Running Club not only boasted the overall winner as a member, but also won the Men’s Team Trophy; they must have felt very proud on the day.

We had a hiccup at the end I’m afraid, I miscalculated the amount of runners who would register on the day, this meant that there wasn’t enough mementoes for the last 41 finishers, NOT, as was rumoured, the last 200, to those who went home without one, I apologise and as we promised on the day, these would be ordered and sent on. They was ordered the following day, arrived on Wednesday, delivered locally that same evening and the rest was posted out on Thursday, I hope that by now, everyone has got them.

The 2011 Swanage Half Marathon will take place on Saturday, 16th July 2011 and will be in the capable hands of my colleagues, Becky Mack and Maria Burgess, I have done what I set out to do and get the entries up to over 500, it’s now time to hand it over.

I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped me on the day, the marshals, everyone on the water stops and my admin crew at the start and finish. Nearly 100 people were needed to cover all of this, a logistic nightmare trying to sort out!! Thank you to all those that took part, I hope you come again in 2011.
