The Carnival Queen competition was held on 12th March at the East Bar and Princesses competition was 23rd April at Swanage Bay View Holiday Park. The Princesses’ age groups were school years 5 to age 12 years and 13 years to 15 years and for the Queen, 16 years upwards.

The three girls chosen were Queen, Cheyenne Jenkins aged 16 years, Senior Princess, Tara Clarke aged 13 years and Junior Princess, Amy Wells aged 12 years.

All three girls receive prize money and will get to keep their dresses.

The girls are given the option to purchase their tiaras and sashes if they want , although they are partly sponsored by Puzey & Co. Ltd. Plumbing and Heating.
The girls are also invited to represent Swanage in a number of Carnivals which include Christchurch, Ferndown, Bishopstoke, Corfest, Bournemouth, Aylesham, Kent and Wareham. Last years Court took 1st place at Christchurch, Bishopstoke and Bournemouth and third out of nineteen Courts at Aylesham.

The Carnival Committee, together with the Queen and Princesses, would like to thank the judges for all their hard work on the competition nights, which this year included the Hannah Foster, 2009 Carnival Queen, Sarah Lane, Gary Toomer from Weymouth, Julie Henderson from Harding Redman’s and Emma Sturch-Grinstead from Corfest.

I would also personally like to thank last year’s Carnival Queen and Princesses, Sarah Lane, Drew Hamilton and Aicha Thompson who will officially hand over their crowns on Saturday 31st July when they crown the new Carnival Court.
