One of Carnival's main goals is to raise funds for local and National Charities
and Organisations.
On Friday, 12 October 2007, representatives from twenty one charities and good causes
attended a Presentation Evening at the Swanage Bay View to accept cheques from the
proceeds of Carnival Week 2007.
A total of £19,900.00 was given, the highest amounts awarded to our five main charities
was £2000.00 each, other recipients were given amounts from £800.00 to £500.00.

Chairman, John Rayner, said in his welcoming speech that once again he would like
to pay tribute to all the sponsors and members of the public who supported the carnival.
He went on to say that this year there had been no headline sponsor, in 2006 we
had had ING sponsor us to the sum of £12,000.00 and had managed to give away £26,000.00,
this year we are giving away just short of £20,000.00 and this showed that it had
been a very prosperous carnival week.
The hard work put in by the committee was well rewarded on nights like this, when
so many worthwhile causes receive
their cheques.
The compere for the evening, Dave Hollister, took over the proceedings and announced
each beneficiary by name and spoke of what the money would be used for.
Standing in for the Mayor was Councilor Gloria Marsh who with the Chairman, John
Rayner and the Carnival Queen, Hannah Foster and Princesses, Mary Flemming and Isabella
Hobbs, presented the cheques.
Our thanks to Dave Taylor of the Swanage Bay View for allowing us use of this function
room and for supplying a wonderful buffet.
